My love for food began in the countryside of the Philippines, where I grew up surrounded by simple yet meaningful meals shared with family. From freshly cooked rice on the table to comforting Filipino dishes prepared with love, food was always more than just something to eat—it was a way of bringing people together, celebrating traditions, and creating memories.
Growing up, I was introduced to the rich flavors of Filipino cuisine—from everyday home-cooked meals to special dishes prepared for gatherings and celebrations. These experiences shaped the way I see food today: as a connection to culture, family, and the places we call home.
When I moved to Canada, my relationship with food continued to grow. Living in a multicultural community introduced me to cuisines from around the world and inspired me to explore new flavors, ingredients, and cooking techniques. I discovered the beauty of different cultures through their food and found joy in recreating dishes from various cuisines while still holding onto the Filipino flavors I grew up with.
Huni & Honey is a reflection of my journey—from a childhood filled with Filipino home cooking in the countryside to discovering a world of flavors in Canada.
